The Dubai Golden Visa, and what owning a company actually gets you.
Because business setup is just the beginning. Owning a UAE company supports a renewable residence visa for you and the family you sponsor. It does not grant a Golden Visa, and nothing in the UAE is permanent residency — here is what you actually get, and what it costs.
- The investor visa a company license actually supports — renewable, not permanent
- Sponsor your spouse, children and in many cases parents
- Set up largely from Australia; part of the visa needs you in the UAE

The routes
Every UAE residence route, and which one a company gives you
Laid out side by side, including the Dubai Golden Visa and United Arab Emirates golden visa routes, so you can see exactly where company ownership sits and where it does not reach. The golden visa eligibility criteria are separate from anything a company license provides.
| Route | What it generally requires | Term |
|---|---|---|
| Investor or partner visa | Owning or holding a partnership in your own UAE company. This is the route a license supports, and the one most Australian owners take. | 2 years, renewable |
| Employee visa | Being employed under a UAE license. How many your company can hold depends on your setup and premises. | 2 years, renewable |
| Family and dependants | Sponsored on your own residence visa once it is issued — spouse, children and in many cases parents. | Tied to your visa |
| UAE Golden Visa — property investment | Property investment at or above a set threshold, held in your name. The threshold and conditions are set by the authorities and change from time to time. | 10 years, renewable |
| Dubai Golden Visa — investor or specialist | Public investment at a set level, or recognition in categories such as science, medicine, culture or exceptional talent, each assessed on its own criteria. | 10 years, renewable |
Indicative only, and the distinction matters. Setting up a company does not qualify you for a Golden Visa. The Golden Visa routes above are assessed separately by the relevant UAE authorities against criteria they set and revise from time to time, and all decisions rest with them. We will tell you on the first call which route your situation realistically fits — including when the answer is that you do not currently qualify for one.
What we handle
From the license to your Emirates ID
The visa sits on top of the company, so the two have to be sequenced together. Six stages, all with the same advisor rather than a license firm and a visa agent who never speak.
The company behind the visa
Which structure supports the residency you need
The license decides how many people you can sponsor, so the visa question and the structure question are the same question. You do not need to arrive at the call knowing the answer.
-
Most Australian owners
Free zone company
The usual route to an investor visa
- 100% foreign ownership, no local partner required
- Supports a renewable investor or partner residence visa
- Visa allocation is generally capped by your package
- No premises requirement in most zones
- Faster and cheaper than mainland — from $9,000
-
Larger visa needs
Mainland company
Hiring, or sponsoring more people
- No fixed visa cap — premises size usually decides how many you can hold
- Trade directly with customers anywhere in the UAE
- Physical premises with a registered tenancy are generally required
- Quoted individually, because premises and approvals vary too widely to publish
What it costs
What UAE residency through a company costs
The company is the cost; the residence visa is quoted on top, per person, so a family is visible as separate lines rather than hidden inside a package. Your figure depends on the jurisdiction, your activity and how many people you are sponsoring.
Australian dollar figures are indicative and move with the exchange rate. Your written proposal is issued in AED with every line itemised.
Payment plans available — the cost can be spread rather than paid up front.
- Free zone company
- from $9,000
- Residence visas
- Quoted per person
- Mainland company
- Quoted individually
Starting price, exclusive of government and authority fees that vary by jurisdiction, activity and visa count. Mainland is quoted individually because premises and approvals vary too widely for a published figure to be useful. Every line is itemised in your written proposal before you commit.
Setting up from 11,000km away
What happens from your desk, and what needs you in the UAE
The company side is largely remote. The visa is not, and that is worth planning around rather than discovering.
-
Done while you are in Australia
No travel required
- Choosing the structure and licensing the company
- Incorporation documents signed digitally
- Establishment card and entry permit applications
- Preparing your bank application
Documents are collected digitally and signed remotely. The company is usually licensed before you book a flight.
-
Requires you in the UAE
Done in person, in the UAE
- Medical fitness test for your residence visa
- Emirates ID biometrics
- Bank account activation, where the bank requires you in person
- Premises inspection and Ejari, if you choose mainland
These are requirements set by the authorities rather than our process. We schedule them around a single trip where possible, and tell you which stages need you here before you start.
How it works
How UAE residency through a company works, step by step
You keep the same advisor from the first call through to renewal — one name, one number, one timezone to deal with.
-
Step 1Tell us what you actually want
Thirty minutes on whether you are relocating, splitting your time, or simply want a UAE base. The residency answer differs for each, and so does the structure. An advisor calls you in Australian hours.
-
Step 2Get the route confirmed in writing
Which visa route your situation realistically fits, what the company behind it needs to be, who you can sponsor and what it costs — every line itemised, including what renews.
-
Step 3Company licensed
Name reservation, incorporation documents and the license application prepared and submitted. You sign digitally from Australia.
-
Step 4Visa processed
Entry permit, status change, medical, Emirates ID and stamping, arranged around your trip. Family sponsorship follows once yours is issued.

Questions
What Australians ask us about UAE residency
1. Is a consultation useful if I haven’t decided which residence route I need?
Yes, and it is the honest place to start — working out the route is what the call is for. 30 minutes, free, no obligation, at a time that works in your timezone. You leave knowing which residence route your situation realistically fits, what company sits behind it, who you can sponsor and what it costs — in writing. If the answer is that the UAE does not suit your plans, you will hear that too.
2. Does setting up a company in Dubai get me a Dubai Golden Visa?
No, and this is worth being blunt about because it is the most oversold claim in UAE business setup. A company license supports a renewable investor or partner residence visa, typically valid 2 years, which you can renew and on which you can sponsor family. The UAE Golden Visa is an entirely separate route, assessed against its own criteria — property investment at a set threshold, public investment at a set level, or recognition as a specialist in fields such as science, medicine or culture. Owning a company does not qualify you, and no amount of license spend changes the golden visa eligibility rules. If a consultant tells you otherwise, that is the point to stop talking to them.
3. What are the Dubai Golden Visa requirements?
Broadly, and as general information rather than advice: the Dubai Golden Visa requirements run along 3 lines. Property investors need to hold qualifying real estate at or above a set value threshold. Public investors need a qualifying investment at a set level, usually evidenced through an approved fund or company deposit. Specialists — in fields such as science, medicine, engineering, culture, sport and exceptional talent — are assessed against criteria for their category, often needing accreditation or nomination. Entrepreneurs with an approved project can also qualify in some cases. The thresholds, categories and golden visa uae eligibility rules — dubai golden visa eligibility is assessed the same way — are set by the UAE authorities and are revised from time to time, so treat any figure you read as indicative and confirm your own position before acting. What is consistent is that company ownership alone does not meet any of them.
4. What is the UAE Golden Visa cost, and what are the benefits?
On cost: there is no single UAE golden visa price, because the application fees are modest relative to the qualifying investment behind them — the real cost is the property or investment you have to hold, not the paperwork. Anyone quoting you a flat dubai golden visa cost without first establishing which category you fall into is quoting the admin, not the requirement. On benefits: a 10-year renewable residence visa, the ability to sponsor family without the usual conditions, and not needing an employer or sponsor to maintain status. Those UAE Golden Visa benefits are genuine, but they attach to the route you qualify under, and for most Australian business owners the realistic route to UAE residency is the investor visa that comes with a company rather than a golden visa at all.
5. How do you apply for a UAE Golden Visa, and should I?
The application route depends on your category. Property investors generally apply through the land department of the emirate where the property sits; investor and specialist applications typically run through the federal immigration authority or a nominating body. In practice, when people say they want to apply for UAE golden visa status, the golden visa uae application is less a form than an evidence exercise — the hard part is demonstrating you meet the golden visa dubai requirements for your category, not submitting it. Whether you should apply at all is the better question. For an Australian business owner, the investor visa attached to your own company is renewable, far cheaper, and arrives with the license; the uae golden visa requirements only become relevant if you were going to make a qualifying property or investment commitment anyway. We will tell you honestly on the call whether your situation realistically reaches the golden visa investment uae thresholds, or the dubai golden visa investment levels, or whether the company route is the sensible answer.
6. What UAE residency do I actually get as a company owner?
A renewable residence visa, commonly called the investor or partner visa, typically issued for 2 years and renewable while your company remains licensed and in good standing. With it you get an Emirates ID, the ability to sponsor your spouse, children and in many cases parents, access to UAE banking, and the standing to operate from the UAE. For most Australian owners this is what they actually wanted; it is only disappointing when someone has told them to expect something else.
7. Is there permanent residency in the UAE?
No. Every UAE residence route renews, including the Golden Visa, which is a 10-year renewable visa rather than permanent status. There is also no residency route to UAE citizenship in the ordinary sense — naturalisation is exceptional and not something to plan around. If your objective is a second passport, the UAE is not the answer, and we would rather tell you that before you spend anything.
8. Do I have to live in Dubai to keep the visa?
You do not have to move, but a residence visa generally carries a requirement to enter the UAE periodically to keep it valid, and the interval is set by the immigration authority rather than by us. Plenty of Australian owners run the company from Australia and travel occasionally. Holding a residence visa is not the same as becoming a UAE tax resident, which is a separate test with separate consequences — and your Australian tax position is a matter for a registered Australian adviser before you commit to anything.
9. Can I sponsor my family?
Yes, once your own residence visa is issued. Spouse and children are the common case, and parents can be sponsored in many circumstances, subject to the conditions the authority applies. Each dependant is a separate application with its own cost, which we quote per person rather than bundling, so you can see what a family of four actually comes to.
10. How much of the visa can I do from Australia?
The company side is largely remote — structure, license, incorporation documents signed digitally, and the establishment card and entry permit applications. The visa itself is not fully remote: the medical fitness test and Emirates ID biometrics generally require you to be in the UAE in person. Those are requirements set by the authorities rather than our process. We schedule the in-person stages around a single trip where possible, rather than having you fly twice.
11. What does it cost to get UAE residency this way?
The company is the cost; the visa is quoted on top, per person. Free zone licenses start from around $9,000, and mainland is quoted individually because premises and approvals vary too much for a published figure to be useful. Residence visas are quoted per person so a family of four is visible as four lines rather than hidden in a package price. Australian dollar amounts are indicative and move with the exchange rate; your proposal is issued in AED, itemised, before you commit. Payment plans are available.
12. How long does the whole thing take?
The license is typically 2–5 working days once documentation is complete and no external approval is outstanding. The residence visa generally adds a week or two after that, and needs you in the UAE for the medical and Emirates ID stages. Family sponsorship follows once your own visa is issued. Timelines are set by the authorities involved and can move.
13. I only want the visa, not a business. Can you help?
Honestly, no — not in the way you are asking. We set up and run companies, and the residence visa comes with the company. If you have no intention of operating a business and are looking purely for residency, the routes that fit are property investment or the Golden Visa criteria, and neither is something a company license delivers. We would rather say that now than take a fee for a structure you do not want.
