What makes up the cost
Every line that goes into a UAE setup
The same six lines apply whichever route you take — they just behave differently. This is the comparison worth having before you look at any headline figure.
| What you are paying for | Free zone | Mainland |
|---|---|---|
| Trade license | The core cost of a Dubai free zone license. Varies by zone and by how many activities you license — an e commerce license Dubai or e commerce license UAE sits differently to a general trading license. | The Dubai trade license cost, set by the authority and driven by your activity and which approvals it triggers. A commercial license in Dubai, a trading license in UAE terms and a general trading license in Dubai are each priced differently, and a Dubai mainland company carries premises costs on top. |
| Government and authority fees | Charged on top of the license and vary by zone, activity and visa count. | Charged on top, and typically wider — external approvals apply to some activities. |
| Premises | A flexi-desk is usually sufficient, and often bundled into Dubai company setup packages. | Physical premises with a registered tenancy are generally required — usually the largest single line. |
| Residence visas | Quoted per person. The Dubai free zone visa cost is separate from the license, and allocation is generally capped by your package. | Quoted per person. No fixed cap — premises size usually decides how many you can hold. |
| Annual renewal | License and visas renew. Worth knowing the figure before year one, not during it. | License, tenancy and visas all renew, on their own cycles. |
| Corporate tax and VAT | Registration and ongoing accounting, once thresholds apply. | Registration and ongoing accounting, once thresholds apply. |
Indicative only. Government and authority fees, thresholds and processing times are set by the relevant UAE authorities and change from time to time. Which lines apply to you depends on your activity, structure and visa count. Your written proposal itemises your actual figures before you commit to anything.
The Dubai company setup cost moves on 3 variables and no others: what you are licensing, how many residence visas you need, and whether your activity requires physical premises. Settle those 3 and the number stops moving. The figure most people underestimate is not the license — it is the cost of starting a business in Dubai once visas, renewals and the second year are counted.
What it costs
What a UAE company costs from Australia
Your figure depends on the jurisdiction, the activities you license, how many residence visas you need and whether you require premises. This is the honest starting point, and it is the same number your advisor works from.
Australian dollar figures are indicative and move with the exchange rate. Your written proposal is issued in AED with every line itemised.
Payment plans available — the cost can be spread rather than paid up front.
- Free zone company
- from $9,000
- Additional residence visas
- Quoted per person
- Mainland company
- Quoted individually
Starting price, exclusive of government and authority fees that vary by jurisdiction, activity and visa count. Mainland is quoted individually because premises and approvals vary too widely for a published figure to be useful. Every line is itemised in your written proposal before you commit.
Free zone or mainland
Which one you need, and what it changes about the cost
This single decision moves the number more than anything else, because it decides whether you need premises. It also decides who you are allowed to sell to, which is the part that matters longer.

Selling internationally
Free zone company
The usual answer for Australian owners
- 100% foreign ownership, no local partner required
- Lower Dubai company formation cost, and faster to set up
- No premises requirement in most zones — a flexi-desk is typically enough
- A renewable residence visa for you, and family you sponsor
- Selling into the UAE domestic market usually needs a distributor or a mainland branch
Starting from $9,000

Selling inside the UAE
Mainland company
UAE customers, retail, or government work
- A Dubai mainland license — or Dubai mainland trade license — lets you trade directly with customers anywhere in the UAE
- Eligible to bid for government and semi-government contracts
- 100% foreign ownership on most commercial activities
- No fixed visa cap — premises size usually decides it
- Physical premises with a registered tenancy are generally required
Dubai mainland company setup and mainland company formation in Dubai are quoted individually — premises and approvals vary too widely to publish a figure

What we handle
What the fee actually buys
Six things have to happen for a UAE company to actually operate and bank. Each sits with a different authority, which is why people hand the lot to one firm rather than managing six relationships from another timezone.
Visas and banking
The residence visa, and the bank account question
These are the two things Australians ask about most after cost, and the two where the honest answer is least like the marketing. Here are the visa routes, and where the Golden Visa genuinely sits.
| Visa route | Who it is for | Term |
|---|---|---|
| Investor or partner visa | You, as the owner or partner in your own UAE company. This is the visa a company license supports. | 2 years, renewable |
| Employee visa | Staff you hire under your license. How many you can hold depends on your setup and premises. | 2 years, renewable |
| Family and dependants | Spouse, children and in many cases parents, sponsored on your own residence visa once it is issued. | Tied to your visa |
| Golden Visa | A separate route with its own qualifying criteria — property investment at a set threshold, public investment, or recognition as a specialist in certain fields. Setting up a company does not grant one. | 10 years |
There is no permanent residency in the UAE. Every route above renews, including the Golden Visa. Anyone describing a UAE visa as permanent, or implying that a company license comes with a Golden Visa, is selling you something that does not exist. We will tell you on the first call which route your situation actually qualifies for.
Setting up from 11,000km away
What happens from your desk, and what needs you in the UAE
Every consultant says “100% remote”. It is not quite true, and knowing the difference before you start is the point.
-
Done while you are in Australia
No travel required
- Deciding the jurisdiction, activities and license type
- Receiving a fully itemised written proposal
- Name reservation and the license application
- Incorporation documents signed digitally
- Your bank application prepared and submitted
Documents are collected digitally and signed remotely. For most free zone setups the license is issued before you have booked a flight.
-
Requires you in the UAE
Done in person, in the UAE
- Medical fitness test for your residence visa
- Emirates ID biometrics
- Bank account activation, where the bank requires you in person
- Premises inspection and Ejari, if you choose mainland
These are requirements set by the authorities rather than our process. We tell you which stages need you here before you start, so the timing is not a surprise.
How it works
How you get from a question to a real number
You keep the same advisor from the first call through to renewal — one name, one number, one timezone to deal with.
-
Step 1Tell us what the business does
Thirty minutes on your activity, where your customers are, how many visas you need and whether you want premises. An advisor calls you in Australian hours.
-
Step 2Get the real number in writing
A written proposal with every line itemised — license, government and authority fees, visas, premises if any, and what renews annually. Comparable against anyone else’s without guessing what has been left out.
-
Step 3License applied for
Name reservation, incorporation documents and the license application prepared and submitted. You sign digitally from Australia.
-
Step 4Visa, banking and tax
Residence visa processed when you travel, bank introduction made, and corporate tax and VAT registration completed.
Who you will be speaking to
You will be speaking to a person, not a portal

Questions
What Australians ask us about cost
1. Is a consultation useful if I don’t have firm numbers yet?
That is the point of it. Every figure on this page is a range because the variables are not set until someone asks you the 4 questions that set them: what you will sell, who you will sell it to, how many residence visas you need, and whether your activity requires premises. 30 minutes, free, no obligation, at a time that works in your timezone. You leave with your actual number, itemised, including what renews in year 2 and what you can do without leaving Australia. If the honest answer is that you should not set up in the UAE at all, we will say so — it is a worse outcome for us to sell you a structure you did not need.
2. What is the Dubai company setup cost from Australia?
Free zone licenses start from around $9,000. The honest answer to the cost of setting up a company in Dubai is that a UAE free zone company setup cost and a mainland one are different orders of number, and mainland we quote individually, and you should be wary of anyone who publishes a mainland figure — it depends on your activity, which approvals that triggers, the premises and tenancy behind your registered address, and how many residence visas you need. A published mainland number has to assume all of those, and the assumption is where the gap between the quoted price and the real one appears. Australian dollar figures are indicative and move with the exchange rate; your proposal is issued in AED with every line itemised. Payment plans are available.
3. What is not included in the headline price?
Usually: government and authority fees, which vary by jurisdiction, activity and visa count; residence visas, which are quoted per person; premises, if your setup requires them; and the annual renewal, which is the figure most people never ask about until it arrives. None of those are hidden exactly — they are just rarely in the number on the website. Ours are in the proposal before you commit.
4. Is the cheapest business setup in UAE a free zone or mainland company?
The cheapest free zone in UAE terms will almost always beat mainland, and usually by a wide margin, because the premises requirement is the single biggest difference. A free zone license typically needs only a flexi-desk; a mainland license is issued against a registered address with a real tenancy behind it. But cheaper is only relevant if it fits — if your customers are UAE businesses and consumers, a free zone license restricts you to selling through a distributor or opening a mainland branch, and the saving disappears. We will tell you which one fits on the call.
5. What is a UAE business license, and do I need one?
The trade license is the company — same thing, different wording. In the UAE there is no separate registration step you complete and then license afterwards — the license is what makes the company exist and lets it operate, and it names the activities you are permitted to carry out. If you are trading, you need one. Which authority issues it depends on whether you go mainland or free zone.
6. Can I get a UAE residence visa by investment, or through the company?
Yes. A UAE residence visa by investment is, in practice, the investors visa in UAE terms that your own license supports — a renewable investor or partner visa, typically 2 years. A freezone visa Dubai-side, or a UAE freezone visa, works the same way — it is the license that supports it, and you can sponsor family on it — spouse, children and in many cases parents. How many visas you can hold depends on your setup: free zone packages generally cap it, while on mainland it is usually driven by the size of your premises. The medical fitness test and Emirates ID biometrics generally require you to be in the UAE in person; the rest is handled while you are in Australia.
7. Can I open a business bank account in Dubai as a non-resident?
This is where most new companies stall, and it depends on your activity, your structure, your own background and how the file is presented. We prepare the application to the standard UAE banks expect and introduce you to banks that accept your profile — including a bank account for free zone company UAE setups, which some banks treat differently. Whether you open a business bank account UAE-side yourself or through us — and plenty of people search exactly that, how to open business bank account UAE — no consultant can guarantee a bank’s decision, and you should be wary of any who claims otherwise. What we can tell you honestly, on the first call, is whether your activity is one banks are currently comfortable with.
8. Do I have to pay corporate tax or VAT?
Corporate tax applies to UAE businesses on taxable profit above the relevant threshold, and VAT registration is currently required once taxable supplies and imports exceed a set threshold, or are expected to. Both are set by the Federal Tax Authority and can change. They sit with CZTA inside the same group, so registration and the accounting behind it are handled by the same people who set the company up. Your Australian tax position is a separate question and one for an Australian adviser.
9. How long does it take?
Typically two to five working days for the license itself once documentation is complete and no external approval is outstanding. What extends it is everything around it — premises and tenancy registration if you are going mainland, and any external approvals your activity requires, where the regulator sets the timeline rather than us. Residence visas generally add a week or two after the license is issued, and need you in the UAE for part of it.
10. Can I pay in instalments?
Yes — payment plans are available, so the cost can be spread rather than paid up front. Your advisor will set out the options alongside the itemised proposal, so you can see what the staged cost actually looks like rather than only the total.
