Frequently asked questions
Prefer to speak to someone? Call +971 56 545 5047.
1. Is the consultation really free?
Yes. Your initial consultation with a certified lawyer is free of charge and carries no obligation. It gives you a clear understanding of your options before you decide to proceed.
2. Do I need a UAE will if I have an existing will or overseas assets?
An existing overseas will may not fully address assets held in the UAE, and its recognition can depend on the registration route and the authority involved. A registered UAE will is generally recommended for UAE-based assets and guardianship arrangements; your lawyer will advise on how it sits alongside any will you already hold.
3. Can I nominate guardians for my children?
Yes. Your will can record your preferred guardians for minor children, subject to the requirements of the registration route you choose. Your lawyer will confirm what can be included.
4. What information will I need to prepare my will?
Typically your identification documents, details of your family and intended beneficiaries, a summary of your assets, and the names of your chosen executors and guardians. Your lawyer will provide a checklist after your consultation.
5. How long does it take to prepare and register a will?
Timelines vary with the registration route, the complexity of your circumstances and the authorityโs own processing times. Drafting is usually completed within days of receiving your information; registration is scheduled with the relevant authority once the draft is approved.
6. Can the process be completed remotely?
Consultations and most preparation stages can be completed remotely. Certain registration routes may require your attendance, in person or by video, at the authorityโs discretion.
7. Are government and registration fees included?
No. The starting professional fee excludes government, court, notarisation and registration fees, which are charged separately and confirmed after your consultation.
8. Can I update my will later?
Yes. You may update your will as your family or financial circumstances change. Amendments are prepared and registered through the same process.
